Auxerre is a commune in the Bourgogne région of France, between Paris and Dijon. It is the préfecture (capital) of the Yonne département. Population (1999): 37,790.
One of the sights of Auxerre is the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne d'Auxerre. Completed in 1560, the Saint-Étienne cathedral is known for its massive stained glass windows.
